The regular season has ended. It’s been a long season and we’ve been through multiple trials and tribulations, but the time has finally come for Issaquah baseball to rally and win another state championship.
Last night, we took on 1st place Redmond. In an incredible game, we came up short 3-2. But that wasn’t the story. Shortstop Michael Dixon made a fantastic backhand deep in the 6 hole and both Spencer and Kalin pitched fantastically. After a 5 game winning streak, we’ve dropped the last two games. But we can’t see this loss as a negative. The team has finally reached the point where we are ready to venture into the playoffs, and with a veteran coaching staff, we’ve got a great chance of success.
It’s been a long four years. I distinctly remember looking up to players like Aratani and DeCilia. But now, the time has come for our seniors, all 11 of us, to lead this time to an incredible victory. Despite our record, no team wants to play us. We have showed that we can roll with any team and, with just a few fortunate chances of luck, we could turn those incrediblly devestating losses into motivating, positive victories that will carry us on back to Safeco Field.
I’ve always believed that leadership was the most important key to a successful team. When Aratani was a senior, he literally led that team to their state title victory. At the beginning of this year, we had a tough time with leadership. The chemistry was there, but we just hadn’t found that designated leader that had the uncanny ability to rally the troops and get the team motivated and to where we needed to be psychologically for the playoffs. But now, with seniors Miles Perkins and Austin O’Neil and junior phenom Spencer Rogers, the Issaquah Baseball team has finally found its niche and is ready to take on and take down any team that is in our way. Watch out, because Issaquah Baseball 2009 is finally alive and ready to fight!
Bada Bing!
